Chesapeake & Ohio Allegheny 2-6-6-2 Locomotove a Retrospective. The H-8 class Allegheny was C&O's ultimate Super Power locomotive and has been treated in countless articles and books, however, nothing has been in print on this important locomotive for 20 years. This book contains material originally researched by Gene Huddleston and many other prominent locomotive and C&O historians. Additional material has been added and the resulting text gives the reader a complete and thorough understanding of this iconic C&O engine. Over 100 photographs include many which have never been published in any venue before. Also included are drawings and tables which help tell the story of the fabulous years from 1942 to 1956 when these giants were the backbone of C&O's motive power fleet. The Allegheny has been the center of controversy and contention as to its place in the history of steam locomotive development and continues to be of interest to railfans, modelers, and historians interested in the history of technology. Arguably, this locomotive was the pinnacle of the steam art in railway motive power. 128 pages.

Cheasapeake & Ohio General Electric Diesel Locomotives. This book is an overview history of the General Motors Electro-Motive Division GP7 and GP9 model diesel locomotives on the C&O. Many were later used by B&O after its affiliation, and some survived into late Chessie System and early CSX eras. All were gone by the mid-1980s. They were the quintes-sential C&O freight diesel of the 1950s and 1960s. This book covers their history and presents a color album showing them at work across the system.

Part #: CEN-BURLINGTONROUTEINFOCUS
Burlington Route in Focus. Railroads have a unique impact on the places we live. They stir commerce and profoundly impact business, but most importantly, railroads shape communities. The management of the Chicago, Burlington & Quincy Railroad (CB&Q), popularly known as the "Burlington Route," was acutely aware of the impact that their railroad had on the region it served. In 1948, the CB&Q commissioned professional photojournalists Russell Lee and Esther Bubley to document the influence of the Burlington Route on the communities it traversed. "This title is a study of 'Granger Country: A Pictorial Social History of the Burlington Railroad', a company-sponsored publication from 1949 that originally included a small portion of the hundreds of images produced by Lee and Bubley for the CB&Q. This new book from The Garbely Publishing Company features some of their best black and white photography from that project. The entire Granger Country collection now resides at the Newberry Library in Chicago, which has graciously allowed authors Reisdorff and Bartels to take readers on a journey around the post-World War II Burlington system by telling the stories behind the images. "The Lee and Bubley photographs illustrate the people, places and machines that were intrinsic to the CB&Q of the 1940s. They show an era when steam power still chuffed across the Plains, when "train time" was still the epoch of any community's day. See how new Zephyr streamliners and diesel-electric locomotives were then securing their foothold on the Burlington Route, and take a ride Everywhere West through Granger Country."

Building Union Pacific 844: The Birth of the FEF-3 Steam Class Locomotive. Union Pacific Railroad steam locomotive No. 844 continues to be familiar to generations of rail enthusiasts. When erected in December 1944, this 4-8-4 type was the last steam locomotive built for Union Pacific. However, until now, few details were available regarding the day-by-day activity that was involved in the actual construction of 844. This book looks at newly-discovered information about the engine's construction by the American Locomotive Company of Schenectady, N.Y., why it came to be built, and how it survived to become a "living legend" for Union Pacific. Includes 58 black & white illustrations.
